Bournemouth Air Festival 2010

Wow what a terrible event this year, the weather hasn't helped one single bit! I think the best day for weather was Thursday, and I decided to camp out at Bournemouth Airport that day..
Weather was changable, but over all good light for shooting aircraft.

While waiting for the F-16 to fly in, I had overheard a couple of people talking about the Vulcan coming in and staying at Bournemouth Airport, I turned to them and said that the Vulcan never stays here. Half way down the runway she deployed her huge parachute to help her deceleration.


After that I was looking forward to seeing the show on the Friday. I had booked a boat ready to shoot with the sun this year instead of against it.

Friday came, and the weather looked bleak, mind you the morning on Thursday had started in a similar way. I was ever optomistic that the weather would improve!

So I drove down into Poole, where the boat was leaving from. Once there I quickly headed to the boat, I didn't want to have a lower deck seat.. Everything seemed fine, weather wasn't too bad, the water seemed relitively calm. That all changed once we left Poole Harbour (the worlds 2nd biggest natural harbour in the world). The water became extremely choppy and the weather started to close in.
People were falling over on deck when they went up for refreshments etc. It wasn't looking good.
Once we had reached our desitnation. The capitain lowered the anchor and told us to stay seated until they had settled the boat. The swaying improved a little, well enough to stand without falling over all the time. I had no idea what I was gong to do, Shooing at 1/125 of a second to capture the blur of Rotors and stand up on 2 feet.

5 hours of being chucked around in a boat isn't really the best way to take shots of aircraft. These are the best of a bad lot.. Hopefully next year will yeild better results.
