Charity Gig at Mr Kyps

Yesterday I was contacted by Kyp who had been told by the local paper that they couldn't send a photographer to cover the Charity Gig that night. Well what could I say? I love taking shots at Kyps, the lighting and sound is just amazing, and to top it off there was going to be a celebrity attending!

Kyp was excited, he was saying to me "Bob Wilson is going to be coming", I was "oh right cool!", but thinking to myself who's he??!, 10 seconds of Googling had him up and I was reading, good old Wiki..

The Charity was Bob's, Willow Foundation, he and his Wife Megs had set this up following the parting of their daughter in 1999, she was just 26 and died of a rare cancer.

The paper required a group shot of Bob and the bands from the gig and some shots of the bands performing. So I got to Kyps early and set up a shot while the bands were sound checking. I set up a dual off camera flash using the new white walls as giant softboxes.

First shot when Bob and Megs arrived and we got the 2 bands together, I went for the more formal posing for the paper.


And then went for a good old 'Jazz Hands' shot for fun..

The warm up band were Greymatter an all girl band, who gave a really great performance, I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from these girls, but they are a really great band.





After the girls had performed, Bob and Megs came up on stage to explain Willow Foundation and what it was all about and how far they had come in the last 10 years

They are very down to earth people, and stayed to the very end of the gig even though Bob said they might only be able to stay for the first 3 songs.

The main band for the night were The Unusual Suspects a local covers group. I enjoyed these guys a lot, they covered a whole load of different jaunra which kept all the age groups entertained.
